Biography

Ms. Zinn has practiced in the employment relations field for over two decades, both as a litigator and as a counselor to human resources professionals on the full spectrum of employment statutes and workplace issues.  She has special expertise in federal and state civil rights laws, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

Prior to joining Kienbaum Opperwall Hardy & Pelton in 2008, Ms. Zinn was employed in Ford Motor Company’s Office of the General Counsel where she had primary responsibility for employment counseling at the Company.  She counseled human resources professionals daily on a variety of employment issues involving discipline, allegations of discrimination, terminations, grievances, contract interpretation, employee privacy, trade secrets, and benefits and leave issues.  She provided advice and oversight in connection with administrative and judicial proceedings, developed and drafted employment policies, trained management personnel, conducted investigations, negotiated pre-litigation resolutions of employment disputes, and managed a nationwide employment litigation caseload.

Highlights of Ms. Zinn’s practice include:

  • Obtaining summary dismissal of a case which challenged the corporate applicant testing process for hourly job applicants;
  • Drafting web-based training on sexual harassment in the workplace;
  • Creating and implementing FMLA-consistent leave processes;
  • Monitoring and auditing FLSA classification for a range of employee groups;
  • Developing training in document retention and documentation skills for managers, contingent workforce issues, and performance management.

Before working for Ford Motor Company, Ms. Zinn was a partner at a major Detroit-based general practice law firm, where she represented employers from various industries in litigation and administrative proceedings, and provided advice and counsel to management clients on labor and employment relations matters.
